A different culture

I always love visiting new countries. In August I got the chance to join the YU study trip to Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. What a luck guy, I am!! I had never visited these countries before and the first surprising thing was the weather! It was cold! Very cold! Even though it was the third week of August it felt like late October. But, despite the rain and the wind, the people we met on this trip was so friendly and generous with their time. Travelling gives you the chance to see a different way of life first hand. Seeing cultural and historical buildings up close gives you a feeling that you can't catch in a photo! Talking to people and making them laugh gives you a friendship whilst only lasting a short time, will last in your memory for longer. The people of the Baltic States showed us great kindness and also how a young country with a long history values its freedom - something that people in the UK and Japan sometimes take too much for granted.
