Once every 4 years

The 2014 World Cup has begun. England and Japan both lost their opening games and are under pressure to win their next two. Although the players are under pressure the people watching are under even MORE pressure!! Minutes before a game starts you get this nervous feeling through your whole body. Each time the opposition attack you try to look away but you always watch and hope the ball misses the goal. You worry about the referee and hope he doesn't make any crazy decsions. You shout at your players to pass the ball or shoot and when your team scores ... The feeling of happiness is undescrible. Why does so much emotion come from such a simple game? It's just a sport, right?

To some people, football (not soccer, because you kick the ball with your foot!) is a religion! Those people idolize certain players and follow all their news stories. They are happy when the team does well and physically sad when they lose. The difference between a league team and a national team is that league matches are every week. The results of a world cup last for 4 years. That brilliant goal, that terrible mistake, that crazy incident - they are all remembered for 4 years.

We've already had some stunning goals, a red card, several penalties and an own goal. We've seen the new goal-line technology work and the use of a vanashing white spray. And this is only the first week! For a month the world is united through sport - what drama awaits us in the next three weeks?
